Hideo Kojima has confirmed that his studio, Kojima Productions, is no longer working with Sony after the Japanese giant decided to stop supporting his new IP, Physint. The decision came after Sony announced it would not continue its partnership with the Metal Gear Solid creator, leading to a shift in publishing rights to Xbox. Kojima expressed surprise at the abrupt change, stating that the news came during a simple video call with Sony representatives.
The situation has sparked significant discussion within the gaming industry, with many questioning the reasons behind Sony's decision. Reports suggest that missed deadlines, budget concerns, and profitability issues played a role in the split. Kojima, however, has emphasized that the long-standing relationship between him and Sony should have warranted more transparency. He has also confirmed that the lead role in Physint will be played by actor Bill Skarsgård, adding to the project's anticipation.
Despite the setback, Kojima remains focused on the development of Physint, which is described as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear. The game is set to use MetaHuman technology, showcasing Kojima's commitment to innovation. While the future with Sony remains uncertain, Kojima has expressed confidence in the project's potential and its ability to deliver a compelling experience to players.
